How To Choose A Niche
For Your Online Business
By Big Willy
Before you build your web site, you need to choose
a niche. If you are already in an internet business
and you are not making any money, perhaps you have
chosen the wrong niche. Here is some advice on how
to choose a niche that will make you money.
Just about anybody can make money on the internet
these days by focusing on the right niche. There
are so many people on the internet that you can
sell almost any kind of information and make money
these days.
Notice I said, "Sell information," because that is
what makes money on the net. And that is why
people go to the net in the first place: TO FIND
INFORMATION!
Like the old adage says, "Find a need and fill it."
Find out what people are looking for, in what
niche they are looking, and then create a business
in that niche based on your findings.
It's also important to choose a niche where
there is not much competition. But if you find
competition, do not let it scare you. It means
that people are already making money in that
niche.
The best tool I have found which will show you
how to find profitable
niches AND which will give you the power and
knowledge you need to win the Adwords game
is New Elite Keyword Software.
But your first job in the process of choosing your
niche is to define yourself.
Don't think about other people and what you
think they need or where they're headed or
what the markets indicate will be the next big
trend in the world. You need to focus on only
one person: YOURSELF.
To choose a niche that's right for you, get
into a business that you will be passionate
about; something that turns you on! Get into
something you know you can get excited about!
I know money turns most people on, but when
you first start out, money doesn't usually
come pouring in like a flash flood. To sustain
yourself during the difficult climb to success,
you must thrive on your passion to make it
through the learning curve.
When trying to determine what business is
right for you, ask yourself these questions:
Who am I?
What are my values?
What motivates me to do what I do?
What am I passionate about?
What am I interested in?
What are my skills?
What comes naturally to me?
What do people tell me I'm good at?
Take a fresh look at your skills. At different
times of your life you have done different
things. You've acquired some experience and
special skills already. What are they?
Also, what gifts can you count as your
blessings? Do you have any special talents?
Do you possess any special knowledge? If you do,
your special skill or knowledge should give you
an advantage in the market place.
A Word About Leverage
Everybody is unique. Everyone has different
interests, skills, and possesses a little more
knowledge than the next guy about something.
Whatever it is that makes you different, that's
what gives you leverage in the world, that's
what differentiates you from all others.
When you start a business, you need to take
the same approach. You will need to come up
with a "USP," which stands for Unique Selling
Proposition.
Your USP is what will separate you from the crowd
and your competition. It's what will define
you as different in your niche, and different
in the market place. Your USP is what gives
you leverage in the market place and creates
an advantage for you over your competitors.
Now you do not need to be an expert in whatever
your business is about. But you do need to have
a passion or a love for the business you'll be
in. You can always, and should always, go to
experts to get more knowledge, training, and
information about your business.
You can always interview experts, read their
books, attend their seminars and workshops,
and often times they will even partner with
you if you pitch to them.
So whatever your special skills are, whatever you
are passionate about, and where you have some
leverage in the market place, that's where you
want to be, --that's YOUR NICHE.
But you've got to follow your passion. Don't
just chase after the money. Because you must
live with your business day in and day out for
perhaps years to come. You better like it!
What's more, you are going to have to write
articles about your niche. Or at least edit
the articles that other people have written
for you about your niche.
So you must have an affinity for your niche
to be successful in your business. You must love
your niche enough to want to know more about it.
If you're not an expert at anything, don't worry,
that's OK. You don't have to be an expert to make
a lot of money on the net.
What you really need to learn and become an
expert at is MARKETING. Products are a dime a dozen.
There are lots of products available to sell.
Marketing is King.
Here are some action steps you can take right now
that will help you choose a niche and a business
that you will love and that will make you successful.
Action Steps
Make a list of at least 10 businesses that
you think you might like doing. Use a category
or topic list to determine which niches you
might like to work in. Make as long a list as
you can at this point.
This may take you a couple of days. Don't rush
this step. Let your subconscious mind aid you
in the process. As you get ideas, jot them down.
Once you have about ten niche businesses listed,
research your top three, and choose the niche
that you think will make you the most money based
on your passion and the amount of competition that
already exists in that niche.
Here are some niche businesses you can check out
to help you come up with ideas. I recommend you

to think creatively. And the research about the niche
has already been done for you.
